My father, Egilio, was born in Italy very near Firenze, the very heart of The Renaissance. In fact there is a small town called Frosini in that celebrated region of Tuscany. Frosini is a very ancient name of Etruscan origins. I can trace my lineage back to the 16th century. My father told me my ancestors built Florence and rubbed shoulders with Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, Medici, Buonaroti. It was a small place then and families all blended sooner or later. Happens when healthy, attractive children come along.
So just maybe there is a genetic component, but I have always been centered on admiring, desiring, and loving art in all forms.
After college and a graduate degree, I joined Peace Corps and went to Ethiopia. Everything African caught my eye, inspired my heart to record, photograph, paint and create a record, mostly in watercolors. My mud hut was filled with my images of what moved me, my four walls soon covered with my version of Africa.
My wish to paint, now in oils, remains a central driving force of my daily existence. I paint because I love doing it, need to do it. I just don't know? Could it be a genetic thing that goes back to a proto-Frosini with time on his hands and a blank cave wall somwhere in Italy?
